Question:
- Can an existing non-ODAS enabled EMR be upgraded in place to talk to an ODAS cluster?
Answer:
- While this is technically feasible, it is not recommended. This approach is error-prone and requires changes on *every* node on the EMR cluster in addition to the master.
- The bootstrap script and Okera setup instructions simplify this process and preclude several classes of configuration missteps.
- The suggested transition path is to spin up an ODAS-enabled EMR, and once it is setup, move users off of the non-ODAS-enabled-EMR to this new one. This approach has the benefit of ensuring that the existing EMR cluster is operational while the ODAS-enabled EMR cluster is configured and validated.
